Oil Painting & Ceramics
There is a counterbalance that occurs with the movement of water a sort of reset. I am a child of the California foothills an area laced with creeks and ponds, but for a short time I found myself in the homeland of my father in the North Island of New Zealand. It was there I discovered the sea….ever since, finding my way back to the sea. I am an explorer of tide pools and a bit of a collector of rocks, shells and sticks. My art lives in the realm of “cause and effect” if I dig a hole in the sand, the ocean will fill it building up and eroding away in paint or clay….it is about movement and connection.
In the beginning I prepare my canvas with a textured surface. It is applied randomly, yet plays a strong role in the art as there becomes a dialog between the textures and the subject which inspires the process. I work in oil, thin washes to slowly build up. In paint or in clay it is the progression of building and taking away until I find the balance in motion.
My studio is located on the North Coast of California and I can also be found at my secondary studio in ARTHOUSE on R, Sacramento CA.
