Pine Needle Art
Sandi Falk is a local artisan whose contemporary pine needle art blends traditional basketry with bold color, texture, and imagination. While many of her pieces are functional, she is best known for pushing the boundaries of the medium through intricate sculptures, mixed-media gourds, and her signature "Angel Baskets." Her passion for pine needle art began in 2023, inspired by instruction from Pomo elder Oshie McGill and further ignited through basketry studies with Bea Acosta at the Gualala Arts Center.
Working with premium long-leaf pine needles and a vibrant palette of dyed fibers and threads, Sandi creates pieces that evolve organically throughout the creative process. Rather than following a rigid plan, she allows each basket to guide its own development, resulting in one-of-a-kind works that reflect both intuition and artistry. Driven by curiosity and a love of experimentation, Sandi continues to explore new techniques and possibilities within this ever-evolving art form.
