Gourds & More
Barbara Fast is a multidisciplinary artist who finds inspiration in the fusion of different materials and techniques. Initially drawn to creating embellished hard-shell gourds and woven baskets, she has expanded her practice to explore the intersections of basketry with pottery, felt, and other art forms. Her work often incorporates natural elements such as reed, seagrass, seed pods, feathers, and antlers, bringing an organic sensibility to her pieces. Each creation reflects her fascination with texture, form, and the limitless possibilities of combining traditional and contemporary techniques.
A dedicated member of the Gualala Arts Basketmaking Group and the Bay Area Basketmakers, Barbara is deeply engaged in her artistic community. As the founder and assistant manager of the Coast Highway Artists Collective, she is passionate about supporting fellow artists and sharing a diverse range of creative expressions with the public. Through her work and her leadership, she invites others to explore the beauty and innovation that emerge when art forms converge.
