Perry Hoffman is a multifaceted artist known for work in photography, mosaics, tile making, and the creation of the renowned Tile House in the Mojave Desert. Born in 1953 in Los Angeles, Perry was raised in a household that valued art, music, and compassion. Early artistic pursuits led to studies at the California Institute of the Arts in the early 1970s, a time of creative exploration alongside figures like Paul Reubens and David Hasselhoff. Later, in San Francisco, Perry experimented with color xerox collage, mail art, photography, and ceramics, participating in group exhibitions at venues such as the Albany State Museum and La Mamelle Gallery.
In 2000, the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert became both a home and a canvas. With Joshua Tree National Park as a backdrop, Perry embarked on an ambitious mosaic project, transforming an entire house inside and out—a vision sparked by an early visit to Watts Towers. The Tile House reflects a deep connection to the desert landscape, its wildlife, and the artistic potential of found materials. In 2022, a new chapter began with a move to Gualala, where Perry continues to create, farm, and support pollinators, blending art with nature in a coastal setting.
