Painting, Acrylic & Multimedia
Michelle Gilmore is a self-taught abstract artist based in Sea Ranch, California, working primarily with acrylic paint and mixed media. Raised in a creative household with artistic parents, she has always felt a deep connection to the arts. Her artistic journey began with a love for horses, which she sketched regularly, later expanding into jewelry-making and stained glass. Over time, her focus shifted to figurative sketching and painting, eventually evolving into abstract expressionism.
Since 2018, Michelle has been dedicated to abstract expressionism, embracing texture, pattern, and an intuitive creative process. Her work begins with scribbles, shapes, and marks, using a limited palette of two or three colors along with black and white. Each piece develops organically, inviting viewers to interpret their own unique stories within the layers of paint. She has studied with both local and national artists, including Flora Bowley, Nicholas Wilton, Connie Solera, Robert Burridge, and Gordon Studer, continually refining her approach to expressive abstraction.
Below is a small sample of the artist's work. These pieces are available from the artist’s studio collection or currently on display at the CHAC gallery. For inquiries about a specific work, please contact the artist directly.
